BMW recalls X5 and X7 crossovers due to airbag problems.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall of several 2024 BMW X5 and X7 models and has urged dealers to replace the instrument panels in affected vehicles free of charge.
The recall is related to a potential problem with the instrument display that could adversely affect the deployment of the airbags in the event of a crash.
NHTSA's recall notice specifically focuses on problems with the deployment of the passenger airbag module. This insert may not be properly attached to the lower part of the instrument panel due to a mismatch in the composition of the resin used to manufacture the instrument panel. This discrepancy increases the risk of airbag deployment, which leads to disconnection of the instrument panel components in the event of an accident and increases the likelihood of personal injury.
The recall affects five 2024 model year BMW X5 models, including the sDrive40i and xDrive40i models, manufactured on January 29, 2024. Also subject to the recall are three 2024 X7 xDrive40i models manufactured on the same day.
BMW X7.
The problem was discovered on January 27, 2024, when the supplier reported that the quality of the dashboard did not meet the required standards. Further inspections revealed that the composition of the resin used to manufacture the dashboard did not meet quality specifications. After this discovery, the production site was ordered to stop supplying products in February.
As a precautionary measure, BMW has decided to voluntarily recall the product to address potential safety issues related to airbag deployment.
BMW says it has not received any complaints, questions or claims from customers related to this issue. There have also been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the dashboard issue.
BMW X5 2022.
Owners of affected vehicles, including a total of eight BMW X5 and X7 models, will be notified of the recall on April 16, 2024.
Dealers will be instructed to replace the dashboard free of charge to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicles concerned.
