No electric cars from Apple.

Apple has suddenly decided to halt its ambitious plans to develop an electric car, ending a decade-long effort by its Special Projects Group (SPG), Bloomberg reports, citing reliable sources familiar with the matter. The announcement came Tuesday as Apple notified nearly 2,000 employees associated with the Special Projects Group of the upcoming shutdown of the electric car project. The decision, initiated by Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Vice President Kevin Lynch, who is overseeing the initiative, marks a significant shift in Apple's strategic focus. As part of this transition, a significant number of SPG team members will be transferred to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) division under the leadership of John Giannandrea. Their collective experience will be redirected to advance the company's priority projects in the field of AI, which reflects Apple's commitment to use cutting-edge technology in various fields. The decision has ramifications for the entire Apple Car team, which includes several hundred hardware engineers and electric vehicle designers. While some of them may look for opportunities in other Apple teams, the cancellation of the electric car project represents a change in Apple's strategic priorities. Insiders cited by Bloomberg say the final decision to end the project was made in recent weeks. It is noteworthy that a month ago there were reports about a possible delay in the production of electric cars until 2028, as well as about a reduction in the technical capabilities of autonomous driving from the fourth level to the "two plus plus" level. Apple began entering the electric car market back in 2017, when it conducted road tests of an autonomous driving system using the exterior of a Lexus SUV. Dozens of cars driving on US roads took part in the testing. In addition, the company conducted tests of secret components at the huge track in Phoenix, which was previously owned by Chrysler. Apple Car Apple's initial plans were to create an electric car without a steering wheel or pedals, although this concept was eventually abandoned. The company also invested time in developing a remote command center designed to replace the driver. Apple has predicted that the cost of the electric car will be around $100,000, which shows its ambitious aspirations in the electric car market. The decision to end the electric car project underscores the dynamic nature of Apple's strategic initiatives and its ability to adapt to market conditions. While the focus is shifting away from electric cars, the reallocation of talent to AI projects reinforces Apple's commitment to innovation and technological advancement in other important areas.
